Scale and orientation play a critical role in defining the arrangement and status of the participants. The most important individual is depicted on a much larger scale than the elite worshipers behind him. The static, formalized poses of these worshiping figures contrast with the sense of movement in the depiction of the butcher and the gesturing figure who connects the worshipers and the sacrifice.
