The Kusti is the sacred cord that is worn round the waist by every Zoroastrian, and is considered as the badge of community. A Zoroastrian receives the sudreh-kusti through the initiation rite or the 'Navjote'. This cord is wound three times around a person's waist, always over a sudreh, and tied with four knots
