Spectacularly located on the shores of Lough Pollacappul, Kylemore Castle was built in the late 1860s for Mitchell Henry, a wealthy English merchant and Galway M.P., by architects Samuel Ussher Roberts and James Franklin Fuller. Since 1920 it has been home to a community of Benedictine nuns.
