Many of the Kitsune maskus have upward slanting eyes, which are called in Japanese Kitsune-me or "fox-eyes". This mask, however, has charming, downward slanting eyes and folded ears. They say, "Kyougen begins with a monkey, and ends with a fox". To play a leading role in "Tsuri-gitsune"is considered the final training point in Kyougen.
