Presented to the soundtrack of a German television news broadcast, the ‘ARD Tagesschau’, Bernhard Willhelm’s 2002-2003 Autumn/Winter collection featured models walking to the sound of reports on a bomb attack on a synagogue in Jerba, which killed several German tourists, followed by the latest incidental news on sports and weather. This hard reality, in combination with banal faits divers is in shrill contrast to Willhelm’s colourful collection, with its whimsical elements including: multicoloured harlequin motifs; zebra patterns; tricot gloves and shawls in the form of a zebra head; and bright dinosaur prints decorated with spangles and appliqués, like this cheerful ensemble with duck feet.
