A 'Hobbema' signature was recorded in 1874, but the attribution to Hobbema was rejected by Richter in 1880 in favour of Dubois. This attribution is accepted by J. Giltay (letter on file, 1996). Dubois made a trip to Germany in 1652-3, so the subject, as Giltay notes, would imply that it was painted during or after this time.
