At just 3 km from Vinci, immersed among the centuries-old olive trees of Montalbano and surrounded by a rural landscape still quite similar to the one known by the master from Vinci, the Birth House at Anchiano is the place that symbolizes Leonardo’s ties with his hometown.

According to a tradition rooted in the centuries, it was here that Leonardo was born on 15 April 1452, the natural son of ser Piero da Vinci and Caterina; and accordingly, it is here that an interactive museum exhibition offers the possibility of getting to know the history and artistic work of this extraordinary personage from close-up.

A destination every year for a genuine cultural pilgrimage, the Birth House also is linked with Vinci by the Strada verde (the green way), an extended route among the olive trees offering—as do so many paths among the Montalbano hills—striking glimpses and stunning views.
