Oil paint on canvas entrusted to Rafael Mengs by King Charles III in 1776.
The documents provided by the researcher of the MNCN Ana Mazo prove that the portrait of the anteater was entrusted to Antonio Rafael Mengs, court painter, and reinforced the theory of the specialist Javier Jordan Urríes that it could have been painted by Francisco de Goya, who worked by then in Mengs studio, although so far there has been no other studies supporting these conclusions.
