A woman wearing a yellow armor on a dark and red background with shapes of skeletons and a path through a cave in shades of sienna, brown and beige.
Sofía Bassi was a painter considered surrealist. She was a selftaught artist, her work is recognized in México, America and Europe.
Bassi refers to Don Quixote the main character of the novel "The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha" writting by Miguel de Cervantes in in diffrent paintings and print.
In this piece she doesn't present the common depiction of this character, changinig Don Quixote to a female character. She only does that in this piece.
Bazzi left recognizable elements from the novel such as the windmill, armour, spear and shield. The Quixote is thex largest and most brightest figure in the print. For the other elements she use a dark and hot color palette. She is surrounded of three faces one in her shield upsidedown, and the other two on its sides. Bazzi has a distinctive way of make faces.
The Quixote is in front of a cave, with her body broke by the waist but tied with cords, which allows us to see the nothingness inside her armour.
