'La Voce' is the first ballet Maurice Béjart has created for NDT 3, and is based on Jean Cocteau's one-act play ‘La voix humaine’ (1930). The play inspired other artists, including Robert Rossellini, who based his 1948 film ‘L'amore’ on it, and Francis Poulenc, for whose 1959 opera ‘La voix humaine’ Cocteau himself fashioned the libretto.

This ballet tells the story of a desperate woman, who, abandoned by her lover, embarks on a series of telephone monologues as she is torn between deep grief and her determination to go on living.
