Description: Pettoruti’s work is characterized by a refined, at times severe conception of plastic construction. The artist’s treatment of light as a dominant and autonomous element of the composition is highly original and personal, The Last Serenade, a late work of the artist, is representative of his style, which changed very little from that of the 1920s. It belongs to a series of harlequins of the mid-1930s and demonstrates the high level of craftsmanship in form and color for which Pettoruti’s work as a whole is noted. -Text by Felix Angel
