Cité de la dentelle et de la mode

Cité de la dentelle et de la mode
Calais, France

In the 17th century, the term "braiding" referred to a set of geometric patterned bobbins. This was probably a collar garment, fashionable under the reign of Louis XIII, and as it is depicted on numerous portraits of Van Dyck. Originally from Flanders, this lace has a stylised tulip motif.
