The body of this box is constructed using dovetail joints. On the front is a reconstructed Chinese character for life, whilst the sides are decorated with pine trees and birds sitting on blossom trees. A large bat could be seen on the lid. The patterns are relatively concise and precision in detail was achieved through the technique of carving. There is an interesting contrast between the dark lacquer and the shiny mother of pearl.
