With its embroidery and the lettering "Gute Reise" (Have a good trip), this bag is more than a simple piece of hand luggage, it shows that travel was previously a privilege of the wealthy. It is no coincidence, then, that travel items were sold in upmarket clothing stores. A lock built into the metal bracket provided protection against unauthorized handling. The clear discoloration and padding of the lining, as well as the broken and deformed frame, show how frequently it was used.
