Christ is being washed, anointed and wrapped in his shroud before being carried to the tomb on the right, while Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus can be seen leaving.
This painting and the 'Adoration of the Kings' seem to have been part of the same altarpiece, probably painted in 1515, when David moved from Bruges to Antwerp.
