De Nittis captures a crystalline countryside landscape with a pond in the foreground, while children play near the village in the background. This canvas was awarded a prize at the biennial Neapolitan Exhibition (Promotrice di Napoli) in 1866, and was purchased by the Bourbons for 400 lire, thus entering into the Capodimonte Collections.
