Landscape of Granada

"As it says in dedication on the painting, Arcadi Mas i Fondevila (Barcelona, 1852 - Sitges, 1934) gave Poble granadí to Santiago Rusiñol to remind him of the time the two friends had spent in the city of the Alhambra between the autumn of 1895 and the beginning of 1896. They were accompanied on their trip by Miquel Utrillo and a young artist called Macari Oller, who Rusiñol had met in Paris. The reason for the expedition to Granada was because Rusiñol wanted to go back and see the landscapes and light that had fascinated him eight years previously, on his first visit.
Rusiñol and Mas spent much of their time painting the open-air scenes around the city. The Court of the Myrtles, in the Alhambra, or the Patio of the Irrigation Ditch, in the Generalife, were just a few places that Rusiñol captured in his paintings of the city."
