In this painting, Zoni offers a glimpse of the countryside, a typical landscape of the Parma lowlands, in which two large lush trees stand out in the foreground, beyond which you can see the houses of a village. A feeling of loneliness prevails, also because the presence of the human being is revealed exclusively by the buildings placed in the background. The artist presents a new way of conceiving the space of the Emilian landscape, the represented view becomes effervescent due to the colors used. Zoni prefers a clear chromatic range, even if there are also dark touches to outline the plants in the foreground, and the colors, applied with insistent, energetic brushstrokes, appear as luminous flakes. The absolute protagonist of the representation becomes the place with its contents: the painter describes a silent and pleasant landscape, with a suffused atmosphere, but despite this, the shady mass of trees is almost threatening. Observing the canvas the restless sensitivity of the author emerges: he painted a subject dear to him, which he will often re-propose, that is the nature familiar to him.
