In this painting Zeshin, a well-known lacquer artist, created a monochrome landscape painting using lacquer as his medium. The work is composed of two layers of landscape elements: in the foreground is a bridge over a river with a tiny human figure walking on it. Beyond it is an expanse of dense fog that is broken by layers of mountains thickly covered with trees and dotted with houses and a pavilion. Beyond them rises another layer of distant mountains, barely visible in gray.
