Landscape with Mountain Town and Waterfall

Although the Roman artist primarily worked in his native city, posterity saw in Dughet’s work the art of a Frenchman. Indeed, he was related, by marriage, to Nicolas Poussin, worked in his workshop and called himself ‘Gaspar Pusinus’. Despite this personal and professional affinity, in terms of style his work differs greatly from that of his brother-in-law. Inspired by the motif of the mountain town, the landscape artist Dughet lent this work a powerful composition. The drawing is associated with a painting at the Columbus Museum of Art in Ohio.
