Lantern emblazoned with the name of one of its sponsor’s products

This photograph shows the lantern ‘Antar and the Kafiri’ ready to depart for the lantern parade. The two protagonists are poised to fight. A soft drinks manufacturer in Freetown called Freetown Cold Storage (FCS) sponsored the lantern which publicises this by advertising one of the company’s products - Vimto. The lantern club responsible for this lantern had a long history of sponsorship by the manufacturers of Vimto and hence had called itself Vimto Lantern Club from its formation in the late 1940s.
