Irun, Spain

Iron crossbow point found at the castle of Jentilbaratza (Ataun, Gipuzkoa). It has a squared tip and a tubular haft to allow a wooden shaft to be inserted. The castle where it was found is strategically located on the road from the coast to the hinterland, at the entry to the Aralar mountain range. It was highly important in the conflict between the Kingdom of Pamplona-Navarre and the kingdom of Castile and in the faction wars, from which this piece probably dates.
