A multipurpose conveyance, the omnibus was also called an "opera bus" for its popular use in transporting wealthy urbanites to formal evening occasions such as music concerts and theater performances. A large and elegant carriage with ample room for several passengers, this Brewster Omnibus was acquired by the Frick family for use at their summer home in Prides Crossing, Massachusetts. Writing as an adult about her family's carriage collection, Helen Clay Frick noted that the Omnibus was "acquired principally to meet guests in rainy weather."
