“Las Tropicanas,” is a nightscape in which figures pass each other unseen but not colliding. This otherworldly environment, described by Roberta Ruiz as “the Aztecs meeting Las Vegas in Los Angeles,” shows a pyramid of skeletons, bodies covered in coded patterns, an emerald iguana eye to eye with viewers, and objects of simple daily life tucked into this unfolding scene.
