Late prehistoric walled settlement, Gilmonby, County Durham

This aerial photograph shows the visible remains of a late prehistoric walled settlement. It can be seen close to the centre of the image, adjacent to the stream (Sleightholme Beck) that runs diagonally across this view. The settlement included circular huts, and the surviving earthworks suggest that the enclosing stone-faced wall was originally two metres high.
