Siblings Laurie (b. 1949) and Harley Rothstein (b. 1946) are the children of Norman and Annette Rothstein, noted supporters of theatre and the arts, as well as many Jewish causes in postwar Vancouver. Harley foundly recalls having this portrait taken. "Fred wanted to try something different," he says, "He was very proud of this photo and hung it in his studio window for over a year. I used to get stopped in the street by people saying 'Don't I know you?' It really captures something of the spirit of the time. People were very excited about what they thought would be a significant period of cultural and political change."
