This 24-pound siege cannon was part of the Valée artillery, named after its designer, Marshal Valée (1773–1846).
It has the unique feature of being engraved with an inscription marking its participation—and the subsequent French victory—in the siege of Constantine of 1837: "CONSTANTINE, October 11, 12, and 13, 1837."
