In his studio at Clos Lucé da Vinci remained very active, as demonstrated by the numerous drawings and sketches from his time in France that he produced at Amboise. Da Vinci was the court artist, introducing himself as the "pittore del re", the king’s artist, and making the finishing touches to the works that he had brought with him, including Saint John the Baptist, which is today in the Louvre.
