The election campaign of the “Solidarity” Citizens’ Committee relied on election posters picturing the individual candidates with Lech Wałęsa. This innovative idea taking advantage of Lech Wałęsa’s immense popularity has contributed to Solidarity’s final victory. All photographs were taken by Erazm Ciołek and Maciej Goliszewski during one meeting of the Solidarity candidates in Gdańsk.
Pictured on the left: Zbigniew Romaszewski whose father died in the German Sachsenhausen camp. Activist of the Workers’ Defence Committee. Romaszewski was in charge of collecting information about human right violations committed by the communist authorities. He was also one of the founders of the underground Solidarity Radio and cooperated with the Helsinki Committee in Poland.
