In celebration of his pioneering work in electronics, Lee de Forest was presented with the billionth vacuum tube off Sylvania Electric Company's assembly line in May 1952. At a subsequent Waldorf-Astoria luncheon in New York, Dr. de Forest crowned "The Tube Queen." (This photograph in the Lee de Forest papers is from de Forest's Sylvania Billionth Tube Award Album).
