This photograph, taken by Louise E. Jefferson is undated. Based on other images from this time, it is estimated to have been taken between 1960-1965. Jefferson, a talented visual artist and cartographer, was a founding member of the Harlem Artist Guild. She was highly regarded by her peers and Harlem Renaissance luminaries such as Augusta Savage and Langston Hughes. She was also a critically acclaimed photographer whose personal manuscript collection contains her own personal drawings and photographs of other highly recognized public figures such as Eleanor Roosevelt, Jackie Robinson, Thurgood Marshall, and Harry Belafonte.
