The shapes of lacquerware (lacquered wooden bowls) are made using wood or metals, but Park Seongyeol’s work is special in that the role of shapes is minimized or the materiality of lacquer itself completes a variety of forms. Park sees lacquer as a material with abundant possibilities, and creates thin lines like threads using the viscosity of lacquer. He then uses a new technique to overlap lines as if weaving cloth that express shapes and textures.
