Renowned American conductor, Leonard Bernstein, conducts a concert performance of “Rhapsody in Blue” for concentration camp survivors in the Feldafing displaced-persons (DP) camp near Munich, Germany. Bernstein is leading 17 former concentration camp inmates, in a concert for DPs; one of a series arranged by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). The orchestra was bussed twice a week by the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration (UNRRA) to play in different DP camps and played over 200 performances. JDC initiated programs and distributed supplies that nourished both body and soul in the DP camps.
