Here the millstone is topped with the thatch that ensures its preservation in the open air. Fascinated by the variations of light on these simple geometrical volumes and eager to capture all the nuances, the painter paints one canvas after another on this same subject. Any human figure is discarded and the millstone is mainly a pretext for pictorial experimentation. On this canvas, the evening tones are soft, the sun making the base of the millstones glow red, and also clearly dividing their tips into two triangles. The whole is animated by the vibrant touches of the artist.
