[inglês][datilografado] Dear Maria e Portinari, I hope that no news is good news, as I do not know anyone who has heard from you. I trust that you are all well and everything goes pleasantly for you. I am enjoying my lithograph even more than when I wrote about it before. It grows better and better with more time. Florence Horn is in South America, I hear, and doubtless you have seen her. I am sure that she would not go to South America without spending much time with you. Her book just came out last week and was reviewed in Time magazine. I went to Washington last week to the grand opening of the National Gallery. There were nearly 9,000 people there and it was a terrible crowd. Also the marble floors were very hard on the feet, which made President Roosevelt’s speech seem too long. There are some marvelous pictures there, but they are badly hung and the architecture of the building is quite boring and stupid. This seems too bad after they spent 15 million dollars building it. My mother is still sick – she has had pneumonia and is now in a nursing home. She has had a very bad winter. I do hope to hear something about you or from you sometime. Earl Brown, our negro friend, often asks about you. Miss Browning at the Museum also wonders how you are getting along. Yours affectionately, Betty Chamberlain 2
