Dear Sr. Falcão,
Your letter of September 4th addresses to Allen Lane has been passed to me by Miss Kent whom I think has already spoken with you explaining that during the past few days I have been in Paris especially to see Candido Portinari.
The arrangement is that we are bringing out a book devoted to his work in conjunction with Alcides da Rocha Miranda of our associated firm in Rio de Janeiro. They are undertaking, out there the production of sixteen color plates and sixteen black and white plates, and will ship the plates to us here so that we can print the book in England to form one in our series of contemporary artists both British, Australian, New Zealand, American and Latin American.
I assume that his letter to you was written before he knew of my arrival, and in fact when I was with him he showed me the letter you had written to him in which you promised to get in touch with us on his behalf.
I found Candido Portinari a delightful person and his work most exciting, and I would be very happy to do anything I could to help in furthering an exhibition of his work over here. I hope then that you will let me know whether the negotiations with the British Council are successful or whether you would like me to do anything directly with one of the art galleries or perhaps through the Tate Gallery.
Yours sincerely,
For Penguin Books Limited
