Rakovník, Czechia

Letter was written only two days after the declaration of independent Czechoslovak Republic.

Text of the letter

Dear Ema,
in memory of Your faithful friendship
I´m sending You snip of Tricolour, which was given to me
by two officers with unsheathed sabres,
who came to greet us on behalf of liberated sooner deflated intelligence.
Military music played
„Kde domov můj“ (ed. “where is my home“ – national anthem) and „proč bychom se netěšili (ed. „Let's rejoice and be merry“- aria of first act of Bedřich Smetana opera The Bartended bride)
Why we wouldn’t be merry:
Long live Czech Republic!

Yours Alice
