This March 1, 1971 letter from UNCG Chancellor James S. Ferguson to the coordinators of the school's Neo-Black Society outlines the creation of a lounge in the campus student center to be used primarily by the school's African American students. The lounge will also house the offices of the Neo-Black Society. Ferguson expresses a desire that the lounge will create a campus environment that is attractive and beneficial to African American students but also points out that the lounge should be open to all students in accordance with the U.S. Civil Rights Act.
