Answer me, answer me, answer me, answer me, answer me.
Have you heard the news? There are no more pelonas.
January 1st, 1925
My Alex: I picked up your letter this morning at eleven o’clock, but I didn’t answer you right away because as you will understand one can’t do anything when one is surrounded by people; but now that it’s 10 o’clock at night and I am alone with my soul, it’s the fittest moment to tell you what I think. (Though I don’t have a head line on my left hand. S. Mallén.)
Concerning what you say about Anita Reyna, naturally I wouldn’t be angry in the least, firstly because you’re only telling the truth, that she is and always will be very pretty and very lovely, and secondly because I love everyone you love or have loved (!) for the very simple reason that you love them. Nevertheless, I didn’t much like that part about the caresses, because even though I understand that she is very lovely, I feel something like… well, how can I put it? Like envy, you know? But that’s only natural. Whenever you feel like caressing her, even if it’s just a memory, caress me instead and just pretend it’s her, eh? My alex? You’ll say I’m very demanding, but there’s no other way to console me. I know that even if there’s a very lovely Anita Reyna, there’s another no less lovely Frida Kahlo, since Alejandro Gómez Arias likes her according to him and her. Anyway Alex, I loved the fact that you were so frank with me and told me you thought she looked nice and that she looked at you with the same hate as ever; it shows you’re a bit different
