Alex (insured property): I’ve been buten sad because you’re sick and I would have liked to have been at your side the whole time, but since that can’t be I just have to grin and bear it till you get better, which I hope will be very soon.
These days in the mornings I’ve been going to the old man’s office and in the afternoon I was at your cuate Reynilla’s, as you will doubtless have guessed when you received the little package I send you with the maid or maidservant of Reynis, right?
Last night the only one I saw was Salas who told me you had wished him happy New Year in a buten extravagant and amusing way, and he even thought you and I had done it together, but since I didn’t know anything about it I told him it must surely have been you, because it would be odd that anyone else had thought of doing it in such an original and clever way. (You must already know what the greeting was so I don’t need to explain).
The day before yesterday I really didn’t see anyone except Reyna and we went looking for decorations for the little theater that is going to be called Teatro-Pello and trying the surest way to get some work we sent Chole a telegram of the following extravagance:
Dear Miss:
Students respectfully beg you to be so good as to grant them an interview.

I think we just gave away our 50 centavo piece to the telegraph operator...
