Juan Bautista de Punzorol, the finest sailor on the Trinidad, wrote this letter while on Tidore, on the same day that the Victoria set sail (December 21, 1521). He took it to Spain along with others written by the crew of the ship that was left behind. This copy, in Italian, ended up in the archives of the former Republic of Ragusa (today Dubrovnik).
