My dear Emma
I congratulate you on your return home in good health as Miss ________ says you look to be -- Do write and tell me of your adventures through the fall and winter -- Has Miss Sally Cooke made Dr Brant happy? and what is going on in Richmond? A few more weeks and I shall be able to send you some flowers the violets are budding but I fear a change may blight them -- I suppose in the mild climate you have been the flowers have scarcely perished -- I enclose you a crocus which ventured its tender petals above the dry leaves. I do not know for what it stands in the floral vocabulary but to me it is the harbinger of Spring for which I so long -- Love to your dear Parents and Sisters ----- When the Spring really does come you must come with it to your affectionate Cousin M L Custis
