My dear Mr. Portinari:
I thought you would be interested in seeing the enclosed letters with regard to my loan of your paintings and lithographs to the Riverside Museum and the action I have taken regard to having your things reproduced in the book the University Chicago Press is publishing about you. Incidentally, I am paying for the pictures in color which they will use.
I thought you might also be interested to know that the Museum of Modern Art is taking two of the paintings which I bought from you for the exhibition of your work which is opening on October 1st. They are taking the large painting with figures and another one of the large head of a girl.
When Mr. Barr, Director of the Museum of Modern Art, came to see me last week, after looking at the lithographs or yours which I have, he was interested to know if you had any large lithographs as possibilities for the exhibition. Incidentally, I am wondering if you can send me any more lithographs others to I already have. I have so many newspaper and influential people to whom I give these in order to “spread the gospel” that I could use some more. If you want to charge me for them, that will be alright but I wish you would send another batch.
The portrait which you did of me is now in our Fifth Avenue Salon window. It is quite a beautiful display and I think you would be very pleased with it if you could see it.
I hope you and your wife are well and do drop me a few lines from time to time.
Sincerely yours,
Helena Gourielli
