CO-1331 Associated American Artists; Constantine, Mildred. [Carta] 1946 Sept. 10, New York, NY [para] Candido Portinari, Paris. 2 p. [inglês][datilografado] My dear Senhor Portinari: On September 10th we wired you as follows: VERY ANXIOUS HAVE SIX OR EIGHT PAINTINGS FOR SELECTED GROUP EXHIBITION MARCH 1947 WRITING DETAILS AIRMAIL. The Associated American Artists is anxious to present a showing of the work of several outstanding Latin American artists whom we feel are especially significant and whose work should be presented in a most suitable and desirable setting. We are therefore inviting five artists to participate in this exhibition which we plan to hold during March 1947. Among these artists we are hoping to include Joaquin Torres-Garcia, Alfaro Siqueiros and yourself. In addition to the publicity which we would give this exhibition and the effort which we would naturally make to promote sales, we also desire, if possible and if satisfactory to you, to interest commercial firms and others in commissioning these artists to create paintings for special purposes. Already we have accounts with outstanding firms such as the National City Bank to create for them paintings on Latin America, and we feel sure that the proper promotion which our organization is in a position to give, we could secure commissions for certain eminent Latin American artists to participate. With regard to the exhibition, we should like to have six paintings executed within the last five or six years, and these could be sent to us in New York either from Brazil or from Paris; wherever you now have your paintings. If they are in Brazil, could you authorize us to communicate with whomever you have left your paintings, so that we can send them instructions as to shipment. Of course they would be fully insured against all risks during the time they were in transit and while on exhibition in our galleries. We charge the usual thirty-three and third commission on all sales made or on commission secured. While we are not in a position to guarantee you any specificnumber of sales, we are confident that a mutually satisfactory and remunerative arrangement could be made between you and our organization. We would need the assurance of your cooperation in making available to us your latest and best paintings as well as an indication of your willingness to undertake commissions which we might secure should you be interested in this latter proposal. Naturally we would submit to you for your approval any definitive proposals. However, I want to make clear that the invitation for the exhibition does not depend upon your interest in these commissions, but is a separate and individual matter. I hope that the Associated American Artists will have the honor of presenting you through your work during the year 1947 in New York. We are looking forward to hearing from you. Sincerely yours, Mildred Constantine 2
