[inglês][datilografado] Dear Sirs: Attention: Mr. Monroe Wheeler This will acknowledge your letter of July 15. Plans are fast materializing for the publication of a book on Portinari. According to present plans it will be a very attractive volume about 8-3/4 x 11-1/4 inches, to be bound in blue buckram, and sold for $7.50. It will contain a short biography. Rockwell Kent is preparing an Introduction which will be followed by approximately one hundred reproductions of Portinari’s work. Eight of these will be in full color. All of the reproductions will be made by the deep-etch process. We appreciate your offer to contribute to the cost of making a color plate of your picture “Morro”. The funds for making the plates are available, and there is not the same necessity for your contributing in this way as there was at the time Mr. Leao wrote you. Funds have been raised with the expectation that the sales will be sufficient to make it possible for us to pay back one part f them. Your plan to make the books available to yours members is encouraging to those who are interested in a wide distribution of this book. We will need more information regarding the quantity which you will require we can quote a special discount to you. Our regular discount to dealers for resale is 40%. The Robinson-Patman Act restrains us drom giving special discounts except when the purchase performs certain functions which other dealers do not perform and which relieve us of some costs. If you will let us know how many copies you are prepared to order and give any other information which may be helpful, we will be glad to make you the best discount possible and to work with you on a plan for making this book available to your members. Sincerely yours, THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO PRESS Rollin D. Hemens 2
