Candido Portinari, [Rio de Janeiro, RJ]. [inglês][datilografado]
Dear Mr. Portinari:
Florence has asked me to tell you the details o four arrangements about your paintings, since I have been taking care of them. Owing to the fact that all the paintings and sketches were brought into the United States under bond, with our promise to use them for reproduction purposes only, it is not possible at this time for Mr. Barr of the Museum of Modern Art to buy “Morro”. Instead, we have received special permission to let it hang in the opening show of the new Museum building, and will then ship it back to Rio (probably about October 15). As for the other paintings and the sketches, we are going to return them in about a month’s time. I do hope you will not be too disappointed about all this. I think that when you come to New York you will be able to talk to Mr. Barr yourself and see if he is still interested in buying “Morro”.
We all enjoyed so much seeing your paintings and were delighted that you were able to get them up here. I am looking forward to meeting the Portinari family when they arrive in New York.
Sincerely,
Seville McMillan (Miss)
