In 1960, John F. Kennedy made civil rights part of his presidential campaign. Shortly after taking office, his advisor on civil rights, Harris Wofford, receives a letter from Roy Wilkins, Executive Secretary of the NAACP since 1955. Wilkins' hopes in Kennedy have been dashed.
