Letter to W.E.B. DuBois

Surviving letter from J. A. Shelton of the Luther Patterson American Legion Post #36 to W. E. B. DuBois, editor of the NAACP magazine, The Crisis, requesting information about the numbers of black soldiers who enlisted in the U.S. armed forces during previous historical periods. "If not for protest purposes, we would like to have for our files," wrote Shelton, service officer for the post.
