My dear Mr. Leão:
I was delighted at the success of the Portinari exhibition, and I enjoyed very much meeting you at the tea. We have had lots of inquiries about Portinari, and many people suggested that it would be a good idea to have a real show of a few weeks in length in the near future. Thus we decided to hold a Portinari exhibition as planned between January 20 and February 12. I hope I can count on your cooperation in this project, as you already kindly promised in your last letter.
I have learned that the Arts Club is going to have an exhibition of Portinari in December. I wonder if some of the pictures which we might also like to show could not stay in Chicago our exhibition opens. On the other hand, I should like to include in our show a number of pictures not previously shown in Chicago to make the show more attractive. I should very much appreciate it if you could help me in this matter with suggestions. After all, you know Portinari himself, and you might arrange things with to our satisfaction. His exhibition would come at a time when we are having a large meeting of art teachers from all over the country. Thus his exhibition at the University of Chicago would actually have a nation-wide appeal. And it might be best for it to be as representative as possible. I should be grateful if I could hear from you fairly soon, because I want to go ahead with all kinds of preparations.
With many thanks, I am
Yours very sincerely,
Ulrich Middeldorf
