This personal note was sent from General Dwight D. Eisenhower to Staff Sergeant Amos Leslie Wilson and references the thank you note sent by Wilson and his comrade, Sgt. Arno Mayer thanking his wife, Mamie Eisenhower for giving them a much needed "casual" ride. Wilson was a part of a group of German-speaking military personnel sent to Fort Hunt Park for the top secret PO Box 1142 project. This project was run by the War Department and included prisoner-of-war interrogation programs run by the military known as MIS-Y (Military Intelligence Service-Y) and Op-16-Z (Operation-16-Z).

Dear Sergeants Wilson and Mayer:
Mrs. Eisenhower has been intermittently ill and always very busy. Consequently she asked me whether I could find the time to answer your very nice note written on 11th of March. It is so unusual for anyone to take the trouble, later, to repeat their thanks for a casual ride that she was quite touched by your courtesy and wanted to make sure that your note was acknowledged. Both she and I look for opportunities to pick up smart looking soldiers - not only because we like them but because we invariably learn something from them.
Sincerely
Dwight Eisenhower (signature)
